Ag lobbyist: continuing resolution likely before gov’t funding deadline
Congress has less than one week to pass another continuing resolution to fund the U.S. government and an ag lobbyist says he’s expecting lawmakers to meet the Friday deadline.
Randy Russell with the Russell Group says the approaches differ with the House attempting a laddered continuing resolution, which means “let’s take four of the appropriations bills, including agriculture, and extend their funding until January. Then, we’ll take the remaining bills and put their deadline at February 2.”
Russell says the Senate wants to pass a straight continuing resolution to keep all bills funded and the government open until December.
“I think the Senate’s approach to extending the government funding for all 12 appropriations bills will prevail, but to what date?”
Russell says a 9-month extension of the current farm bill is likely to be included. The deadline to fund the government is November 17.
