Former NCGA president optimistic about farm bill timeline
A western Iowa farmer says he’s optimistic lawmakers will get the farm bill done in 2024.
Kevin Ross of Minden says he expects the legislation to give producers continued certainty when it comes to crop insurance. “It seems like the farm bill is going to be less controversial this year than maybe it has been some years past.”
He tells Brownfield a presidential election year shouldn’t disrupt negotiations. “Regardless of a presidential year, obviously those things always play into the final discussion, but every legislator wants to go home with a win and campaign on the backs of some of that stuff. Sometimes the farm bill’s what they need.”
Ross is a former president of the National Corn Growers Association.
