Indiana Farm Bureau keys in policy priorities

Indiana Farm Bureau says it plans to focus on three key policy areas in the 2024 legislative session.
Executive director of public policy Andy Tauer tells Brownfield rural viability, taxation and fiscal policy, and land use and property rights are priorities for their farmer members.
“Making sure we in the state of Indiana have policies in place that allow farmers to continue farming,” he says.
Tauer says in a nonbudget year, the organization is forming a tax task force to prepare for the 2025 budget year and provide insight into the state’s farmland tax formula.
“How do we make sure as margins at the farm gate continue to be squeezed, that taxes aren’t also an issue, squeezing our farmers even more,” he says.
Next Tuesday, Indiana Farm Bureau will host their annual Organization Day Breakfast at the Indiana Statehouse to kick off the 2024 legislative session with lawmakers.
