Rep. Miller shooting for spring farm bill passage
A member of the U.S. House Ag Committee says he hopes the 2023 Farm Bill will be finalized by the spring.
Ohio Republican Max Miller tells Brownfield an extension of the current legislation is likely to be passed before the end of the year.
“I respectfully believe that we are going to probably pass an extension for January and then pass the farm bill and probably February of March of next year, which is pretty typical,” he shares.
Miller says spending the last month selecting a new speaker of the House has delayed everything in Congress and he believes committees need to refocus on priorities.
“We haven’t been working on our committees the way that we should have been over the last month,” he says. “We haven’t been passing appropriations, we haven’t been doing anything other than trying to find someone who can lead our team and it really has messed everything up.”
The first-time committee member also wants to see technical education more supported through farm bill programs.
