Secretary Vilsack says USDA is committed to future generations in ag

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the ag industry needs young people now more than ever.
The Secretary and National FFA CEO Scott Stump signed a Memorandum of Understanding Thursday morning renewing the two organizations’ commitment to prepare young people who want to pursue careers in agriculture. “Because of your energy, your passion, your willingness to tackle big problems and not to see them as impossible barriers, but as great opportunities for change,” he says. “And for improving the lives of people that you all care about.”
Vilsack says the USDA needs more young people to join its workforce. “We look forward to FFA working with us to encourage more of your members to take advantage of some of the opportunities that we have at USDA,” he says. “It’s a bright, exciting future, make no mistake about it. And that’s why it’s important for us to renew this very important partnership.”
Prior to the signing, the National FFA Organization awarded Secretary Vilsack with his Honorary American FFA Degree following his remarks to the delegation. The award is bestowed upon individuals who have provided exceptional service on a national level to agriculture, ag education, or the FFA.
